The leg was made by David Buckley in 2005 for the Shadow Robot Company as part of a contract from North Carolina A&T University. In the photos below the Prototype, mainly made in mdf, can be seen showing the range of movement. The final version was made from Acetal and Aluminium can be seen in the video below.

Shadow developed a working model of the Ornitholestes dinosaur as part of a series of internship projects. The dinosaur had three head movements, two arm movements, three tail movements and a flexible spine providing a wide range of neck movements. All movements were, of course, powered by Air Muscles.
The Dinosaur later had an interesting career in performance studies, and can be seen here at a workshop with the Performance Robotics Research Group.
Adrenalin Systems needed prototypes developing for their innovative domestic flight simulator. Shadow were commissioned to produce both proof-of-concept designs and initial system prototypes, as well as writing demonstration software and developing innovative actuation.
A top interior design company contacted Shadow with an unusual commission: to produce intelligent moving furniture for a London penthouse. The furniture had to be able to move along complex paths, whilst being completely safe for the user.
The Energy Project is a site specific installation that snakes up the 100ft boilerhouse chimney at Stoke Newington School. A bespoke computer programme reads the levels of video and audio content produced by students in Year 9 and this affects the behaviour of 45 light panels with over 9000 LEDS.
