The Shadow Tactile Sensor is an integrated touch sensing solution. The sensor uses Quantum Tunnelling Composite (QTC) as the sensing medium. Each Sensor contains an on-board PSoC, which allows the user to actively control the range and sensitivity. This gives the sensor an unrivalled range, allowing plenty of useful feedback for control of manipulation tasks.

Custom 22 tactel sensor with 3mm LED
The standard Shadow Tactile Sensor is available in two shapes, one suitable for the thumb and the other for the finger. Each of these is also available in two sizes, with 34 or 22 individual tactile elements (tactels). The 3.3mm diameter tactels are evenly distributed over the surface of the sensor for uniform coverage and to ensure no insensitive regions. The tactels are sensitive to loads ranging from 0.1N to 25N. This allows simultaneous control of both delicate handling and power grasping. The unique construction of Shadow Tactile Sensors allows custom sensors to be built to almost any dimensions allowing huge flexibility to fit your needs.
