Merging
Manufacturing
In MERGING, we look at the automation of handling flexible materials in production processes. It’s something not yet applied at a large scale because of the lack of satisfying solutions in the market whereby a smart system can deal with the changing shapes of the flexible materials and handle them with care. By delivering a versatile, easy-to-use, and low-cost system, we can help the European industry, particularly in sectors such as textile, food and transport. As part of the project, Shadow Robot is creating an optimised dexterous multi-finger gripper equipped with an adaptive electro-adhesive skin. This will help determine how to pick-up materials while controlling their level of bending and deformation.
